Cooper Tires

The Cooper Way

Cooper builds tires for the way real drivers really drive (really!), and they have since 1914. Originally called the M and M Manufacturing Company, Cooper was founded by brothers-in-law, John Schaefer and Claude Hart in Akron, Ohio. Akron is clearly a hotbed for tires.

Cooper Corporation Launches

In 1915, the couple purchased the Giant Tire & Rubber Company of Akron, a tire rebuilding business, and in 1922 they relocated the business to Findlay, Ohio. The name changed to Cooper in 1919 when Cincinnati auto-parts dealer I.J. Cooper founded The Cooper Corporation in Findlay, Ohio, to manufacture new tires.

By 1983, Cooper joined the ranks of Fortune 500 companies as one of the largest industrial companies in the United States.

Brand Trust

The Cooper family of companies has outfitted the wheels of millions of vehicles around the world, and they understand the impact that a tire has on people’s everyday lives. Cooper’s primary focus is passenger car and light vehicle replacement tires, but they recently expanded into manufacturing for new vehicles as well (OE).

In 2014, Cooper was the official tire provider of the FIA World Rallycross championship and they are currently a major supplier of tires for the Formula D Drift series and the Canadian Drift series, so it’s safe to say that they can handle those back road twists and turns.

Cooper is the 5th largest tire manufacturer in the U.S. and the 12th largest tire manufacturer in the world. Other than their flagship brand, Cooper Tires, they also design and manufacture tires under several other brand names. These brands include Mastercraft, Dean, Starfire, Roadmaster, Avon Tyres, Mickey Thompson, Dick Cepek and Mentor. Cooper accounts for 12 percent of the light vehicle replacement tire market, a testament to their dedication to quality.

Cooper makes tires for people, not just for cars (Please don’t take that literally). Cooper tires perform on the road so drivers can perform everywhere those roads take them.
