Family owned and operated Tire Discounters, the nation’s eighth largest independent tire retailer, announced today that William “Chip” H. Wood, owner and Chairman, is returning to the helm as CEO, replacing Paul Brunner, effective immediately. Jamie Ward, EVP Sales and Operations has been promoted to President and COO.
Brunner is wrapping up several special projects during a leadership transition phase. “We are extremely grateful to Paul for his dedication and service,” Wood says.
Over the past five years, Tire Discounters has experienced exponential growth, including the addition of four major markets, which doubled Tire Discounters’ retail store footprint. The company also recently celebrated the milestone of opening its 100th store, expanded its headquarters to downtown Cincinnati and added a new distribution facility in Tennessee.
“It’s hard to believe how far we’ve come in 40 years,” says Wood, who started the company in 1976 with a one bay cinderblock building and a pickup truck loaded with tires. “The momentum and growth we’ve experienced have been nothing short of thrilling,” he says.
It’s this excitement that has called Wood back to the day-to-day management and leadership of the company. “We are positioned positively for future growth and expansion,” he says. “I am more energized than ever before. I can’t wait to see what this phase will bring.”
Wood is also delighted about the opportunity to work side-by-side with his son, Steven Wood, Director of real estate, and his brother Chris Wood, Vice President. “When I started in the business, I worked closely with my father. Now I have the opportunity to further mentor and guide my son.” he says.
Ward, who has worked closely and been mentored by Wood for the past 20 years, has served in many different roles within Tire Discounters, from working in the stores to executive vice president. “To see Jamie become president is a very proud moment for me,” Wood says.
“I am humbled and honored to assume the position of President and COO,” Ward says. “It’s a privilege to be a part of such an outstanding organization.”
